Closing Ceremony

$100

The “Closing of the Bones” ceremony originates from Central and South American postpartum traditions, particularly rooted in Mexican and Ecuadorian cultures. It's most commonly associated with traditional midwives (parteras) and indigenous healing practices.

This ceremonial practice is intended to honor the mother after birth, helping her physically, emotionally, and energetically "close" after the expansive experience of pregnancy and childbirth. It often includes massage, wrapping the body with rebozos (woven shawls), herbal baths or steams, and guided rest. The ritual is deeply symbolic, recognizing the transformation that occurs during birth and supporting the mother’s integration and healing.

What to Expect in a Closing of the Bones Ceremony:

Gentle Abdominal & Hip Wrapping – Using a rebozo (woven shawl), the body is lovingly wrapped to bring warmth, comfort, and a sense of closure.

Sacred Touch & Massage – A nurturing, rhythmic massage supports the release of tension and encourages deep relaxation.

Herbal Ritual & Aromatherapy – Warm herbal infusions, essential oils, and intentional care create a grounding and restorative experience.

Emotional & Energetic Releasing – Space is held for reflection, storytelling, and emotional support, allowing the mother to integrate her birth experience.

What are the Benefits?

The Closing of the Bones ceremony offers profound benefits for postpartum recovery—supporting the body, mind, and spirit in gentle, holistic ways. Some key benefits include:

  • Physical Alignment and Support: Helps realign the pelvis and spine after birth, supporting proper posture and reducing discomfort.

  • Muscle Relaxation and Healing: Through massage and gentle binding, it encourages the muscles and ligaments to heal and regain strength.

  • Emotional and Energetic Grounding: The ceremony provides a sacred space for emotional release, reflection, and nurturing, fostering a sense of calm and inner balance.

  • Community and Connection: Often performed with family or community members, it honors the mother’s transition and creates a support network.

  • Promotes Rest and Recovery: Encourages slowing down, prioritizing self-care, and honoring the body’s need for restoration.

  • Cultural and Spiritual Healing: Connects mothers to ancestral traditions and wisdom, enriching the postpartum experience with meaning and reverence.
